34Below At Humphrey's Backstage Lounge
Carlsbad-based band 34Below will be back in San Diego on Monday, July 19, to play a 9:30 p.m. show at Humphrey's Backstage Lounge on Shelter Island, following the Hootie and the Blowfish concert on the Humphrey's outdoor stage. I shot this picture of 34Below in June at Dublin Square Irish Pub, where they were playing on a stage that wasn't very photography-friendly (note the high railings surrounding it).
34Below used to be known as Liquid Groove, and part of one of their songs eventually became a Sycuan Casino jingle that declared, "It's all right here..." I originally met band members Steve Ybarra (center) and Chris James (right) in October of 2002, when they did a set at the fourth and final episode of the Naked Songwriters Showcases. Steve and I discovered that we both went to different schools named St. Augustine, and we've kept in touch.
After that Gaslamp Quarter show in June, 34Below left on a West Coast tour in support of their new album, which just happens to be called "Live at Dublin Square"! Click on the CD to hear samples from it.
Next Monday, July 26, the band will make a stop in Denver, Colorado, at Quixote's True Blue, before heading even further east. From August 3-31, 34Below will be traveling from the top of the East Coast to the bottom of it, providing music for the Wyland Ocean Challenge in the following locations: Old Orchard Beach, Maine; Hampton Beach, New Hampshire; New Bedford, Massachusetts; Providence, Rhode Island; Norwalk, Connecticut; Brooklyn, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Wildwood, New Jersey; Wilmington, Delaware; Ocean City, Maryland; Virginia Beach, Virginia; Kure Beach, North Carolina; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; St. Simmons Island, Georgia; Hollywood Beach, Florida; and Key West, Florida.Posted at 10:43 PM in Music
