Rob Mehl Playing House Concert Sunday
I met Rob Mehl on May 22 when we both attended Taylor Harvey's CD release house concert at Cheri Robertson's home in La Mesa. On that day, Rob gave me a copy of his own new CD, "Just Give Me The Keys," and it quickly became one of my favorites! I was lucky enough to get to see Rob play later that month, when Bridget Brigitte made him a last-minute addition to the Bridget's Music Monday showcase she produced on Memorial Day at Humphrey's Backstage Lounge, where I shot this photo of Rob and his one-of-a-kind blue Takamine. During his set that night, Rob told the story of how his friends had conspired to sneak the guitar away from him so that they could get it custom painted for his 50th birthday. They also installed a new fingerplate, shaped like a dolphin! It's a gorgeous instrument!
If you haven't yet heard anything from "Just Give Me The Keys," click on this picture of the CD to go to Rob's page on CDBaby.com, where you can listen to clips from the songs. Two of San Diego's finest female singers, my friends Mattie Mills and Eve Selis, did background vocals on the CD, which is part of what makes it so good!
And if you'd like to catch Rob live, you can do that tomorrow, Sunday, July 25, when he too plays at a 1 p.m. house concert at Cheri Robertson's home, along with another of my talented singer/songwriter friends, Gary Seiler, and Mark Mulligan, who I've never heard but who I understand is mighty good too. For more information about the concert, e-mail Cheri at email@example.com.Posted at 8:28 AM in Music
