YOURSELF & Jose Playing Coffee Houses
Three old friends of mine will be appearing at coffee houses this weekend and next. YOURSELF, who are Howard and Diane Anshell, will play at the Coffee House on Broadway Friday night, September 10, while Jan Tonnesen will perform with Jose Sinatra and the Troy Dante Inferno this Saturday night, September 11, at Lestat's Coffee House, and the following Saturday, September 18, at Claire de Lune Coffee Lounge.
I've known Howard and Diane since the early '90s, when we worked together along with a lot of other brave people to help collect enough signatures to get the Medical Marijuana Initiative on the California ballot as the successful Proposition 215. I shot this picture of YOURSELF when I saw them at Bridget Brigitte's Music Monday on Memorial Day.
I've known Jan, aka Troy Dante, two decades longer! I met Jan way back in the early '70s, when he worked at the new Waldenbooks in the then-brand new Parkway Plaza mall. Now he works Downtown at the much more cool Wahrenbrock's Book House.
Here's an e-mail from Howard:
Come on down to the Coffee House on Broadway, corner of 30th and Broadway in Golden Hills, San Diego, this Friday night, September 10. "YOURSELF" (Howard and Diane Anshell) will be playing, with no cover charge, from 8:30-10:00 p.m. We also highly recommend that you come early enough to catch "One Dude Orchestra," an electric cellist, who is opening the evening at about 7:45 p.m. This is a family venue, the coffee and food are great. Come on out and have some fun with noises approaching music!
And here's a note from Jan:
FYI, upcoming Jose and Troy gigs are: September 11 at LeStat's in Normal Heights; September 18 at Claire de Lune in North Park; and September 25 at the Adams Ave. Street Fair (complete details not set yet).Posted at 9:33 AM in Music
