My Aunt Mae Passed Away Yesterday
My cousin Bernie Descoteau called my mother last night to tell her that his mother had passed away yesterday in Iowa. Bernie's mom was my dad's sister, and the last one of the four siblings who had been alive. I always knew her as Aunt Mae, but this morning I got an e-mail from Bernie and his wife Lyresa that said her first name was actually Genevera. She was the second of the four children of my grandparents, David Madison Green and Amy Mae (Walker) Green, following my Aunt Huetta and ahead of my dad, Madison "Bud," and my Uncle Bernard "Max." Mom said Aunt Mae was 89. She suffered a bad stroke several years ago and had been in a nursing home since then. Lyresa e-mailed me this 1999 photo of Mae.
Here's that e-mail:
All, Mom's funeral is Saturday at 2 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty, Iowa. For those of you who just heard me call her "Mom," she is Genevera "Mae" Hogan. She will be buried beside Dad, Billy Charles Hogan, at the cemetery in West Liberty. Go give someone a hug for us please. -- Bernie & LyresaPosted at 9:05 AM in DMG's Family, In Memoriam
