Happy Birthday Tom Warren!
Happy Birthday to Tom Warren, one of the partners in Schroeder's Club and Cabaret and the husband of one of my very dearest friends, Bettina "Pixie" Warren!
I believe I first saw Tom in 1980 when he and the then-Pixie O'Donnell were in "Brigadoon" together at the University of San Diego. She was Jean MacLaren and he was one of the townsfolk. Two years later I saw them play opposite each other as Will Parker and Ado Annie Carnes in "Oklahoma!" for Tom Rusch's Covenant Ark Theatre. Tom and Pixie got married in 1984 and they now have three bright and talented kids.
Last year Tom and Pixie, together with Sher Krieger, Todd Schroeder and Timm Dietschak, opened Schroeder's Club and Cabaret at the Westin Horton Plaza. Tom handles the technical work, setting up and controlling all the lighting and sound equipment, while Pixie is one of the club's main singing attractions. Every once in a while, Tom also will get up and join Pixie on stage for a song. I shot both of these photos in November, during the wrap party for the very successful first season at Schroeder's.
These days Pixie also is preparing to be one of the stars of "Radio Gals," a play that opens next Thursday, January 27, at the Avo Playhouse in Vista. Produced by Moonlight Stage Productions, the show is a musical comedy by Mike Craver and Mark Hardwick, the same writing team who created "Pump Boys and Dinettes." It will run from January 27-February 20 at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, and also at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Local theater legends Don and Bonnie Ward are directing and choreographing the production.
As I said earlier, Happy Birthday to you Tom! You're a talented guy who seems to have a great wife, family and career! In fact, sir, if I somehow could steal a man's existence, I think it would be yours I'd want to swipe!Posted at 11:25 AM in Birthdays, DMG's Friends, Music, Theater
