Jenn Grinels Plans CD Release Party
I met Jenn Grinels last Saturday night when I went to Java Joe's Pub to catch three other singers. Jenn turned out to be a bonus singer who wasn't actually on the bill that evening, but was invited to do a few songs. I shot this photo during her performance, which I liked a lot. Jenn has a very powerful voice and she writes interesting songs. After she finished her set, I talked with her to learn more about her.
Jenn told me that she's returning to the music scene after spending the last few years doing theater. She mentioned playing Janis Joplin for three years in "Beehive" at the Theatre In Old Town. I've since learned that she also was Yitzhak in Cygnet Theatre's 2003 production of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch."
Jenn will have a CD Release Party tonight, Saturday, January 22, at Lestat's West in the neighborhood I lived in while I was in grade school, Normal Heights. Julie Sadoian will open at 9 p.m., then Jenn will take the stage at 9:30. Trevor Davis will close the evening with a 10:30 set. It's an all-ages show with a $3 cover charge.
