DMG Catches Pennant Fever!!!

One of my oldest loves is baseball, and this year's Major League division races are down to their final two weeks, so I have my annual case of Pennant Fever, baby! Saturday night I went to the Padres-Giants game at Petco Park with my old St. Augustine High School and San Diego State University classmate Jim Harmon. It was cap night, so we all received free spiffy white lids...

The Padres won 6-0, so everyone had a great time! Much-hated Barry Bonds left the game after spraining his right big toe while leaping against the left-field wall for a second-inning Adrian Gonzalez drive that eluded Bonds for a triple. Brett Tomko and four relievers shut out the Giants on 6 hits, and Mike Cameron blasted a 2-run homer in the 3rd inning, as the Padres narrowed the gap between them and the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks to 2 games...

In our Field Level seats on the first-base side, Jim and I were surrounded by many friendly Padres fans, including one very pretty photographer...

and some of her friends, who posed for a lot of the shots she snapped...

Before the game I ate dinner at the barbecue place behind center field that is run by former Padres star pitcher Randy Jones, while I listened to some Beatles tunes performed by a band called The '63eatles...

And even before that, I began my trip to Petco Park with my usual pilgrimage to the building at 7th and J that once held a company called McKesson & Robbins. My father, Madison "Bud" Green, worked there in the late '50s and early '60s, to put my sister and I through Catholic schools. It's still standing now, but I fear it will disappear once they build a new firehouse to replace the tiny one whose tower has watched over both buildings for decades...
